EXTRACT FROM COMBAT SAMBO COMPETITION RULES

 

1. Result of the bout

The result of the bout shall be the victory of one contestant and the defeat of the other or the defeat of both opponents.

The victory is defined in accordance with Table 2.

1. Victory ahead of time (4 points):

- by the blow;

- by the painful hold;

the fighter looses his fighting efficiency;

the fighter gives in under the painful hold;

the fighter gives in under the strangle;

 

the gap in the evaluation makes 12 points and more;

the fighter does not resist and can’t continue the bout.

2. Victory (4 points):

- the opponent’s elimination in the course of the bout;

 

 

 

 

 

- the opponent’s refusal to continue the bout

 

Correlation of technical points – 4:1

the fighter got the injury and can’t proceed with the bout by the doctor’s decision;

the fighter exceeded the time limit to be helped by the doctor (3 min);

the fighter is eliminated from the bout for breaking the Rules;

 

the fighter or his second (coach) refuses to continue the bout;

3. Victory (4 points):

- by points

Correlation of technical points – 4:2

with 2 to 11 points difference;

in overtime with 1 to 11 points difference (in accordance with the Competition Regulations)

4. Victory (4 points):

- by referees’ decision

Correlation of technical points – 4:3

under the absence of one the bout results defined above:

by the quality of technical points;

by the last move;

by referees’ decision.

 

The table of the bout results includes the correlation of the winner’s and the loser’s technical points in accordance with the quality of victories. The kinds of victories are arranged by their priority.

The team result is defined by the sum of technical points scored by the athletes in all weight categories. The team scoring the biggest number of points will take the first place. The number of participants in every weight category by whose results technical points are scored shall be fixed by the Competition Regulations. The system of technical points scoring for the results achieved by the athletes of the team is as follows:

1st place – 7 points, 2nd place – 5 points, 3rd place – 4 points, 4th place – 3 points, 5-8th place -2 points, 9-16th place – 1 point, 17-32nd place – 0,5 points.

 

3. Evaluation of Technical Actions

Technical actions in Combat Sambo bouts are evaluated in accordance with Table 3 and depend on positional relationship of the attacker and defender regarding the mat surface before and after the technical action.

The contestant gets 2 points for 10 sec hold-down. The hold-down is scored only one time.

4. Illegal Holds

 

In Combat Sambo bouts the following holds and actions are forbidden:

  • bite and scratch;
  • press and strike blows on the eyes;
  • strike blows on the back of the head and neck-bones;
  • kick from standing the opponent’s head who is in Ground position;
  • apply Painful Holds on neck-bones and spine;
  • grasp with fingers nose, ears and genitals;
  • grasp the opponent’s separate fingers or toes;
  • strike blows to the groin;
  • strike blows by the head to the opponent’s head;
  • strike blows to the coccyx and anal hole;
  • strike blows to the spine;
  • grasp the opponent’s hair;
  • thrust the fingers to the opponent’s body openings ( mouth, nose and so on);
  • use the objects that may prevent the normal course of the bout.

 

When the contestant is declared “illegal action” (I.A.) that didn’t result in the injury, his opponent gets 2 points, with the second application of an illegal action he is declared defeated.

The contestant is eliminated from the bout and declared defeated for any caution given after I.A.

In case the opponent can not continue the bout by the doctor’s decision as a result of an illegal action, the fighter at fault is declared defeated.

 

The Rules are violated in the following cases:

  • fleeing the mat with no technical actions;
  • stalling (passive wrestling);
  • pushing the opponent off the mat;
  • crawling away from the Painful Hold, Strangles, Hold-down and so on.

For violation of the Rules the contestant is given a warning (W), for the repeated one he is announced the first caution (C1). In case the contestant has already got one caution, for the repeated violation of the Rules he is given the second caution (C2). The contestant with two cautions is eliminated from the bout and declared defeated in case of any violation of the Rules or an illegal action.

 

If the contestant was announced a caution and applied an illegal hold he is also declared defeated.

When the contestant is penalized by a caution (C) for violation of the Rules, his opponent is given 1 point.

 

5. Start and End of the Bout

The bout starts at theTtimekeeper’s sound signal (bell strike) and the Referee’s command “Fight!” The bout is interrupted at the Referee’s command “Stop!” The bout ends at the Timekeeper’s sound signal (bell strike) and the Referee’s command “Stop!”

 

6. Contents of the Bout

In Combat Sambo bouts it is allowed to apply the whole arsenal of Single Combat sports holds and actions except the ones forbidden by the Rules and Competition Regulations.

7. Fighters’ Positions

“Standing” – the contestant touches the mat only with his feet ( is standing).

“Ground” - the contestant touches (leans on) the mat surface with any part of the body except his feet.

The bout in Standing position – both fighters are standing.

The bout in Ground position – one or both fighters are on the ground.

8. Breakdowns

Evaluated technical actions as a result of which the defender looses his balance and falls down from standing to the ground on his back, shoulder, chest, stomach, side or buttocks.

9. Painful Holds:

over-bending (Lever), joint rotation (Knot), pinching of tendons and muscles as a result of which the fighter acknowledges his defeat. It is allowed to apply Painful holds in all positions defined by the Rules.

10. Strangles (Chokes):

squeeze of the carotid artery and respiratory tract as a result of which the fighter gives a submission signal or faints. Strangles are allowed to apply in all positions defined by the Rules.

11. Blows:

sharp, momentary interactions with the opponent by the striking parts of the body (fist, edge of the palm, forearm, elbow, knee, shin, foot and head) as a result of which the fighter falls down to the Ground position or is incapacitated.

Blows may land on the following zones: head (except its back), neck (except throat and neck bones), chest, stomach, sides of the body, back (except spine) and legs. Blows with the hands are allowed in all positions defined by the Rules. Kicks are allowed to strike in Standing position. It is allowed to kick the opponent from standing when he is in the Ground position : on the legs - with the knee, shin and foot, on the upper body – with the knee. In standing blows with elbows and forearms are allowed to strike on all permitted zones, in ground – except the head. Head blows are allowed to land on all zones except the head.

12. Hold-down

“Hold-down” is the action that allows the fighter to hold the opponent’s back on the mat (or toward the mat) for 10 seconds while pressing his body to the opponent’s one (or to his arms pressed to the body).

 

The extract is given on the basis of the Rules approved by the Board of the Russian Combat Sambo Federation in 2002.
